Vor 3000 Jahren ritten die Boten der Königin Hatschepsut aus der königlichen Stadt Luxor, wo auch der königliche pharaonische Thron stand in die Stadt El Quseir um von dort aus in königlichen Booten nach Somalia zu reisen. Hier beschafften sie Luxusgüter wie Elfenbein, Myrrhe, Weihrauch, Ebenholz und exotische Tiere für ihre Königin Hatschepsut. Diese Route nannten die Ägypter Rohano, „Straße der Götter“. So wurde die Stadt El Quseir zu einer königlichen Stadt. Diese Route wird ausführlich im Totentempel der Hatschepsut beschrieben.
